Research assignment 1

Did you that on some cites it says that hate crimes can be necessary to people.  Thats just wrong NECESSARY why necessary.  Well it seems that hate crimes are necessary because they discourage racism and prejudice.  This would build or lower hate crimes, it seems they mean lower them.  The reason why hate crimes are unnecessary is because they can kill and the crimes higher the crime rate and bring up more hate crimes.  why do people do hate crimeshttp://sks.sirs.com/cgi-bin/hst-clean-copy?id=S44-4241-0-1576&type=ART&artno=0000287444&key=Hate%20crimes&shfilter=U

SOCIAL ACTION POEM racism...

By what sends
the white kids
I ain't sent
I know I can't
be President.

What don't bug
them white kids
sure bugs me
We know everybody
ain't free.

Lies written down
for white folks
ain't for us a-tall:
Liberty And Justice
Huh! For All?

This poem is by Langston Hughes
After reading this poem it makes me think of how racist life must have been when blacks and whites dis-liked each other. I just don't see why though.  One line in this poem really speaks volume to me and thats "liberty and just huh--for all"? To me it sounds like he is saying wow you really think this means for everybody psh.  not really

socail action #2

I looked on some topics and found one that seemed efficient enough to me.
How life can be stressful for everyone, recently I have been noticing student, parents, and teachers seemed very stressed.  So I look ed into being stress, and I found that stress is everywhere and effects everyone.  My life usually is very stressful. But see most of the things I do are very stressful life I guess is supposed to be like this.  I always come to find myself asking is life always this way or is it just the world.  Stress in my words is the very reason of why who I am but I don't let it get to me because frankly I don't care.  I just wish people would just chill in life but its life u can't chill.  Like who's gonna chill in life? Most of the time I am stressed because I have a lot to do everyday.  Its either baseball, basketball, school,or do nothing in my life.  With all of this stuff it all just stress's me out.  People just like me or older than me are stressed all the time, I think that one day we should all just chill.

Life has its everyday task which stress people out and me.  For example school stress me out sooooooooooo much but I guess it just does that because its school.  School would be such a greater place if it did not stress soo much.  Half of the stuff in school that I learn in school stress's me out and I can't process it.  To be real honest school sucks cause it can be stressful I guess.  I am in an organization called jack&jill and we have cluster's every oct. and this cluster talked about what things can stress you out the most.  Some things were school, family, parents, friends, activities etc.  but the one I looked into mostly into was school.  school is just another reason for me to be stressed but to me honestly I just have to get through it its life.  I wonder what the meaning of life is?

Appreciation on Freak the Mighty

Aaron Straker
Class: 807
Date: 10-24-10

This book (Freak the mighty) has me always thinking about underestimation and how people underestimate Freak and Max.  In the book people look and stare, and probably say things like you'll never amount to anything or some BS.  But you see with these two characters they just don't care enough.  I feel that underestimation is a big part in this book.  Both characters have their problems (mentally and physically) but they use each other to get through them.

Freak and Max both have their problems and people put them down some time.  But you see in the real world underestimation just boost that person up to do more.  With Freak people tend to pity him because of his form.  With Max he's just a little dumb in the head.   To me this is how these to be such good examples of people who get underestimated.

In this world it shows Max and Freak just being them and only them.  It shows how if you’re different and people think less of you just don't care.  It comes to show that these two are just inseparable when it comes to them.  They never let people bring them down.

It just goes to show that these to characters are great.  So if you ever read this book, people who are thought little of, there is just something more to them... They use it to be something more.  People are just going to amount to something than that person.  Freak and Max never stopped whatever they did.

People around me have never been underestimated I think that we all are very important people on earth.  This is what really brings us together though the put downs, not thought much off.  When I was younger I always thought I was dumb because I was never really that smart but I know that everyday is a day to do my best.  My family thinks very highly of me because I am the only boy but I always want to be the best, and not feel “underestimated”.

This book to the real world and where I live people with disabilities or problems should never stop giving up like these two Freak and Max.  This is why I appreciate this book sooo much.  I hope to do this process again with another book

media social awareness

In the Daily News today i saw an article about a women named Jones

Article:She's is our Hero

In this article it said how ones was just a regular police officer doing her job, but Jones had did something more than just be an regular police officer.  As a police officer for 20 yrs Jones had tracked down a major robber and killer in the Brooklyn area she had found him and caught him.  Jones it said was always persistent in Wat she did and how she did it.  To me this is very awesome that they found someone (a killer and robber) and took him off the streets of Brooklyn.

Jones was later placed to being a NYC detective...

An observation I looked into was that my family is a very task force family my great uncle was in the air force and fought in the Korean War my uncle was a marine and my grandpa was a police officer since I only know one of these men, I realized that my Grandpa had must of done things like this.  I always read in the old newspaper my grandma had that my Grandpa was always being awarded for something which is what happened to Jones.

Well a true Story that i know is that Police officers make a change or difference in the world everyday.  This why we need them soo much. police officers like Jones are the really special and GREAT police officers.

My Reflection:
I don't really understand this process because i mean this article is great and all i love it but this is like a science current events... Back to the article, i think this article is very nice and sweet and shows how people make a difference and do something amazing by possibly putting there life on the line...  People should just do things for the benefit of others and themselves because  we should all do something for the benefit of others andd themselves

Entry #8 Mother to Son

This "Mother To Son" poem by Langston Hughes is very confusing to me but re-reading it i get the meaning and what i think it means.  But to me I think this poem is about a boy and his mother, and how his mom is talking about life or how she lived life.  The one thing that is very thought provoking was this line in the poem "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair" this line in the poem to me means that life for the mother hasn't been that easy.  The line after that says "it has its tacks and splinters" in this line Langston Hughes is probably talking about how life has its problems and its downs and times.

Mother To Son is such a remarkable poem because it takes about life all together and we just have to get through it.  A crystal staircase in this poem seems to be a flawless world or a untainted world.  This poem reminds me of my grandma because my grandma had to raise four children by herself my grandpa had died earlier before i got to even know him.  What I'm really trying to say is that this poem is really about life and to never ever really give up in life like these lines in the poem
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now --
This to me means to don't turn back and keep trying and succeeding whatever you do.  This poem to me is a wonderful poem for having to do with life and how it really is out there...

reasearch on Freak The Mighty entry #7

Freak The Mighty is such a wonderful book but in my research i came across a very mind provoking question which wanted me to know more.  How Freak The Mighty talks about such strong topic's?  I mean i read this book with my class in 3rd grade and it was very good but to hear that as a little kid was a little weird.  I remember one part in the book was when I had just learned that Freak was disabled i felt a little weird.  This book touches on such strong topic's like death, killers, smoking, and alcohol  when all off this hit me in 5th grade when I read it again I understood.

Now reading this book all of these issues are not really a freak as they were when i was little.  When i was little this book i said gave me the creeps only because i think i was to young to be understanding this book.  I guess when your older everything changes like all they rules about being a kid and then being a teenager.  with teenagers my age reading this book is a breeze than little kids reading this book it is much different because of age i guess.  when it comes to reading certain books i guess age takes a toll and effect, if your like ten reading a adult book you wouldn't understand it .  same goes for the other way but people would just be like "why are you reading a picture book"...

character connections in freak the mighty

The Meaningful Character Connections that I saw were between Max and Freak, because they both have their problems and issues but they help each other with them. Freak is small and a very weird kid to be around and he has some disabilities with his body.  Max is the son of Killer Kane who killed his mother, so now with Max every time someone see;s him they automatically think Killer Kane's son. The connection between them is so deep you can see their relationship grow stronger thought the book this is a Meaningful Connection I thought was very important.

The topic or theme i noticed about Charlotte's Webb was Friendship.  I think in Charlotte"s Web, it was mostly about Friendship because of all the friends Wilbur has.  He seems to have change because as he was at the barn he didn't like it.  He was also all down and sad about how he was lonely.  when he met Charlotte he seemed to have changed and open up more around her.  To me Charlotte and fern are mother figures are major supporting characters, when Fern was there when Wilbur was growing up. and when Charlotte was there when she heard Wilbur was gonna get killed.  Charlotte is somewhat of a great friend too, because she seems like she would take a bullet for Wilbur.

This is why i think the book was about friendship.  When Fern was there taking care of Wilbur when he was gonna get killed, and having to go to Fern's uncle"s barn.  When Wilbur met goose and goose had showed him to be free and outside the barn.  Templeton who was a on and off character, but he was always there with Wilbur.  Charlotte who went through life and death to save Wilbur's life, she was one of the main connection in Friendship.

The theme of this book to me is Friendship between everyone in this book.
