Final Coming of Age response

I just finished reading the Giver by Lois Lowry and i understand the book even more now.  After reading this book in elementary school, I was always slow to understand it.  But now growing as a young/adult/13 yr old I understand the "Coming of Age" in this book.  The main character to me in this book really has to grow up... I will talk more about this down below.

Jonas in this book represents the word mature because of some of the decisions he makes and the things he has to do.  Jonas deals with this very awkward and weird community but he see's the wrong in it and to me that is why he is so mature in this book, that is one very important observation I notice about him.  For Jonas to be 12 is amazing and being assigned one of the very huge important roles in his community is crazy.  By learning from the previous giver he notices and see's the wrong.  Jonas is very patient and curious at the same time.  What I mean by this is that he  notices something but doesn't jump right at he waits but when he finds out about it he is very curious.  I guess 12 yr olds are like that (laughs).  Example when Jonas had memory about the killing of animals he was very curious to know more but patient with it.  Then he started to learn.  Jonas life as a 12yr old must be hard living like this, cannot relate at all maybe a little.

I think that community in this book are like the community in the movie surrogates that I just watched.  In the movie people all have a surrogate that pretty much does the same thing and in this community it seems the same way.  I notice also that when you get picked for your role by the community you just stay that role forever  and ever i guess till you die.  The other puzzling thing is the elders like who are these guys just like the almighty GOD HANDS of the place who pick every thing.  This community is kinda like an Native American tribe too.  Because both are assigned jobs and both have elders or whatever and both are just awkward.  Jonas is like the only normal one there who is like "hello guys were like the elders little puppies can't you see."

I cannot relate to this story much, but I can relate to how Jonas can feel sometimes.  Its like Jonas wants to know so much more buts its like a barrier resisting him to see more.  Jonas qualities are very special and unique he is brave, curious, strong and smart.  Things I wish I had.  Jonas childhood is just striped from him once he turns 12.  I think that Lois Lowry is trying to get something out too, she saying like once you turn 12 it all changes.

In conclusion reading The Giver again was a great choice because I got to see hat I couldn't before. I'm not gonna give away anything but seeing how strong Jonas was a the end was amazing to break away from pack.  I really appreciated reading this book it always gives me a smile when I can say I rad that book.  I as well very much glad that I choose this book quote from Gabe "over To Kill A Mocking Bird."

Reading Response to "Coming of Age" book

For my coming of age book I read "The Giver" by Lois Lowry.  After reading this book a long time ago in 4th grade I figured that reading it would help me understand more about it.  When reading this book before I had always thought of it as a whack book.  Now reading it I have discovered many different meanings to it.  Like What does Jonas the main character discover about his community as he is growing up?

The Giver seems to do a lot whit age because of how when you turn twelve you must get a job assigned to you by the council.  To me Jonas can't really grow up in this world because he gets a job assigned to him at twelve.  Getting a job assigned to you at that age can't really let you grow up at all, thank god I don't live in a world like his.  To me when Jonas is getting his job assigned as the giver.  The person who gives back memories and dreams is the only way he really learns about his community.

In The Giver Jonas also learns about this release.  This release is when you are assigned a job at twelve and you get to old you are released.  It's like a weird way of saying here's a pill no go die we don't need you anymore.  Now one thing I observed about this is that The original giver was so old and Jonas was twelve so it seems certain assignments you are their longer than most.  Jonas learns that they are just pretty much using people over an over again, to me its like when you use a resource and you use too much of it you gotta let it go and get more.  In this book I also see that it's like forcing you to grow up; for guys it's like that huge step from a boy to a man.

Jonas learns that being the Giver isn't so easy cause he learns so much more about the outside world.  I think that while Jonas is the Giver he starts to learn about the outside world and other places.  He soon starts to realize that where he is living is just one place it isn't the world its just one spot.  For example, Jonas had a dream about how he saw an elephant mom and a young elephant getting shot by people.  He ended up be so terrified learning that.  I think that at that point it all started to click that Jonas was really learning about his society and other places too.

One thing that was really strange to me was how everyone was the same people wore togas and rode bikes they all had bike ports everyone was assigned a job at twelve.  It just seems like this place was almost just created and made like this for everyone to be the same.  it's like a bad horror flick that you watch with your dog(completely joking).  Jonas seems to learn from the previous giver telling about all of what they do.

In Conclusion, i really can see how Jonas discovers the secrets that lie behind the closet in his world.  Jonas is just a boy trying to grow but can't because he has a job at twelve,he his seeing all of these mysteries and confidential DL (down low if u didn't know) stories.  All in all so far reading The Giver again and really understanding it is great.

final draft of air jordan's poem

This poem Please Don't take my Air Jordan's is very mind provoking because, why would someone do something like this just so the could look good and cool.  I think this poem is all about how this kid is in poverty a little because, in the beginning he talks about how he ain't got no money no job and etc.  I can see that back then or maybe if this is recent that they probably would do something like this, because Michael Jordan was a huge and famous player.  It just seems a little bit off and wrong because if this happened in today's world everyone would be shocked. I also notice at the end of the poem he doesn't really stop there he wants more stuff like a new jacket and he feels confident.

The poem is a little like society today but people wouldn't kill other people for shoes; I mean they used to but now a days they steal shoes.  It seems that when this was written or the time period it must have been like this.  My observation about this poem is that it is very serious and a little weird to me, because I mean no just goes around shooting people for shoes, I mean only if you’re crazy.  It still just makes me want to peruse Please Don't Take My Air Jordan's.

The character in this poem seems to always want to look fresh for his crew, not look janky, and look fresh all the time.  I just don't under stand why he had to kill the kid for some sneakers I mean is he that poor.  Jordan's are like a very popular thing in society and they go with your cool or your not cool style.  I infer that in this time period life was like this because of all the new and popular things coming out.  It seems that in this poem that killing is what “you got's to do" to get something.

This poem in some ways can connect to me but not alot; because the world I live in today is if you’re poor you’re not rich.  I think all people in this world want to be is successful with money and alot of stuff.  Don't get me wrong I have stuff in my life but people like this guy seem to just want things to just have them.  I feel that in my neighborhood this would actually happen but no one would get killed.  I just think this kid was poor and when you’re poor you don't want to show that you’re poor.  So I believe that people are like this in the world and things like this would happen, because just recently I watched Lottery Ticket and the bad guy had stolen the new shoes that the kid had just bought.  People in the world at that time and today I think would do this horrible thing.

You can really see the themes in this poem death, life, you and etc but I believe that this poem is just a reminder to society, that this stuff happens.  This poem should be shared with many people to see the real and true meaning of society and what really happens in it.

Extra credit being a detective on shakespeare

The debate goes on about who wrote Shakespeare.  The argument is who really wrote Shakespeare, the two sides are the people that believe William Shakespeare wrote his plays and Edward de Vere the 17th of Oxford.
Many people say that William Shakespeare was the one who wrote many plays and poems.  Some think Edward de Vere actually did all of that.

let's start with Shakespeare
William Shakespeare: William was born April 23, 1564 in Stratford, at the age of 16 he started to write many sonnets and plays.  By the age of 18 Will met a women named Anne Hathaway and got her pregnant they then had 3 kids Susanna, Hamnet, and Judith.  Hamnet died at the age of 11.   For almost 7 tears William Shakespeare had been gone these years were called the lost years.  After those years he came back and established him self as a play write and an actor.  On his birthday Will was said to have died April 23, 1616

Oxford:  Edward was born April 12, 1550 he was the only son of John de Vere he to also like Shakespeare wrote many plays and lyrical poems.  At the age of 15 he married Anne Cecil.  Edward de Vere was a very successful man  even  the queen ( Elizabeth) was grateful of him she gave him annuity of 1000 euros.  Also after many long years people had believed that the real author of Shakespeare was Edward de Vere. Edward de Vere died 7 years earlier than William Shakespeare died June 24, 1604.

For me I can't really decide who actually wrote Shakespeare and who did all of this work.  But if I were were to choose i would say Edward de Vere wrote all of Shakespeare because he was born before him and he didn't have any missing years were he was just gone.   Then again no one knows what Shakespeare did for seven years so it is very hard to choose one of them.

I also see that he says, that he wants a new jacket-(line)
"with my brand new air jordans man was i cool
i killed to get them but hey . . . i don't care
cuz now. . . i needs a new jacket to wear."
It just seems that this kid will never stop stealing and killing.

narrative poem Jake the rake

There was a boy
his name
was Jake
Jake wasn't fake
but Jake had a problem
he never raked
his mother's Leaves

one day Jake
had turned into a rake
and for the rest
of
Jake's life
he
was a rake

i tell this story to insure
you it is not about being real or fake
just don't be like Jake the rake

poem about a memorable moment

The day was very special
when that
man who is so honest
signed the greatest proclamation ever

making life ever so easy and fun
we were free
the Africans became
African-Americans

poem on picture Cowbys DAD

The pride in there walk
The talk on there land
The work that shows heart
The DAD boys
The shinnig light
The Cowboys

response to Starry Night

I think that this poem has many different meanings to it.  When I saw the painting and then read the poem I realized there are so many different things to this between the poem an the painting.  The writer had just took what she saw and made a picture of what she say using a poem.  Which I thought was pretty cool being able to take a visual picture and make it you own visual picture.  Don't get me wrong it is a little weird the poem becuase she ends to stanz's with "this is how i want to die." To me thats a little sucidal and depressing.  It seems to me that she was writing it becuase of what she felt and it worked out to be a good poem.

To me, I think the poem is great.  I really like the uniqueness to it and how its metaphors are really good.  The poem just dives deeper into topic and the main idea in every line.  It seems that Anne just wanted to express how she was feeling through a poem and just tried to get some kind of message to the readers.

Painting Analysis:Alissa Hartman Paintings

Observations:

1: a lot of bright colors blue and green
2: many different shapes and things in different sizes
3: the reflection in the water
4: background is very bright
5: trees are all green looks very peaceful

Inferences:
It looks like its a very peacful place and very calm.  The lake is very clear and crisp that you can see the mountains reflection.  The trees are fulled with vibrant green clors that are bright.  The light in this in this painting is not very dark so its gotta be in the evening.

Interpretations:

I interpretate that this artist is trying to find the real meaning of the world.  Like in other places where there are trees and its all fulled with trash etc.  This painting is saying to me to treat the world a better place and look at its joys.  Some places like this would be turned into a mall or supermarket.  Thats what I feel like is going on or what they were trying to say.
